Youths urged to take up Uwezo loans

Youth in Marakwet West Sub County are being urged to apply for government’s non-interest loans to support the growth and development of their projects.

Stephen Adawo, the Marakwet West Sub County youth officer, expressed his concern over the low number of youth groups enrolled for these funds.

In an interview with KNA, Adawo emphasized the importance of forming youth groups to increase eligibility for loans.

He revealed that less than ten youth groups had benefited from the funds in the past year, indicating a lack of enthusiasm among young people in the region to apply for these loans.

Highlighting the advantages of the government non-interest loans, Adawo explained that they offered zero interest rates and provided a grace period before repayment began. These funds could be instrumental in enabling young entrepreneurs to expand their projects and realize their aspirations.

Despite ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the loans, Adawo acknowledged the persisting reluctance among youths to take advantage of the opportunity.

He attributed this hesitation partly to the failure of relevant stakeholders, youth leaders, and political figures in the region to effectively educate and sensitize young people and special interest groups about the application process.

The government non-interest loans, such as the Uwezo fund has the potential to empower and uplift the youth of Marakwet West Sub County. By capitalizing on these funds, young entrepreneurs can access the financial resources needed to turn their innovative ideas into successful ventures.

Adawo concluded by calling upon the youth of Marakwet West Sub County to come forward, form groups, and apply for these loans. He urged them not to let this valuable opportunity slip away, as it could be a crucial stepping stone toward achieving their goals and contributing to the region's development.
