2 arrested over gruesome murder of JKUAT student

Two suspects have been arrested over alleged involvement in the brutal murder of Joel Juma, a fourth-year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. According to the DCI, the suspects; Joseph Muchiri, alias Agent, 22, and Paul Mbatha, 20,  were arrested after thorough  forensic analysis identified them as being the perpetrators. “The first suspect was seized from his hideout in Kiandutu, Thika town, while the second was arrested in Gachororo, Juja area, as he tried to escape our dragnet that had been extended to Murang’a County. The seasoned crime busters are closing in on the third suspect and efforts to find him dead or alive are at advanced stages,” DCI noted. [Photo: DCI Twitter][/caption]The DCI further noted that the two suspects have confessed to taking part in the murder and are expected to be arraigned in court on Thursday, April 21, 2022. Juma was attacked and murdered at 2:00am on Tuesday by a gang of three thugs who escaped with his phone and other valuables. He was attacked in the company of his girlfriend. The two were on their way to get revision materials from a friend who stays nearby, but they were unfortunately attacked before getting there. “...Juma later woke up and embarked on his books at 2am, he asked her to escort him to where a classmate lived a few blocks away, to get some reference material that he needed before morning. “It is while on the way when the thugs attacked them near hotel Lilies, demanding for money and mobile phones. Two of them descended on Juma with blows and kicks  before stabbing him twice on the left side of his chest, leaving him lying on the ground in a pool of blood,” DCI narrated. The commotion caught the attention of local guards who rushed to the scene and took Juma to hospital, but he was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.
