Nigeria Enjoyed double glory at Monday's Confederation of African Football awards ceremony in Marrakesh.

The awards saw two of Nigeria's elite footballers Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoa clinch the best continental individual awards for the game.

Victor Osimhen beat Liverpool's Egyptian Mohamed Salah and PSG's Moroccan Ashraf Hakimi to be crowned as the 2023 African Men's Footballer of the Year in recognition of his fine performances for the Super Eagles and Napoli.

Osimhen scored 26 times in 32 appearances last season to fire Napoli to the Serie A title for the first time since 1990.

The 24-year-old also scored five goals in four Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches to help Nigeria book a spot at next year's tournament.

Osimhen's CAF award comes almost two months after he placed eighth in the men's Ballon d'Or vote - becoming the first Nigerian to finish in the top 10 after claiming the 8th position .

Compatriot Asisat Oshoala won the African Women's Footballer of the Year prize for a record-extending sixth time.

Oshoala, 29, was part of the Nigeria team that ended the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup unbeaten.

She scored in a 3-2 win over co-hosts Australia and also featured in draws against Canada, the Republic of Ireland and England, who eventually knocked Nigeria out in a penalty shootout.

At club level, Oshoala shone for Barcelona last season as the Catalan club won Spain's Liga F and the UEFA Women's Champions League.

Oshoala's Nigeria side also won the title of Women's National Team of the Year at Monday's ceremony.

She beat off competition from South Africa and Racing Louisville's Thembi Kgatlana and Zambia and Shanghai Sengli's Barbra Banda.

South African Desiree Ellis picked up her fourth Caf Coach of the Year award after leading Banyana Banyana to their first World Cup.

The men's award went to Morocco's Walid Regragui on a great night for the Atlas Lions, who were named the National Men's Team of the Year.
