5 die in Londiani accident

Five people died in the wee hours of Saturday morning, in an accident involving a Nissan matatu and a trailer.
The accident happened in Londiani, Kericho County after the driver of the 14-seater matatu reportedly rammed into the trailer.
Ten people were injured and are nursing injuries in hospitals, in Kericho and Molo.
A child is among those who died, according to the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS).
"The scene of the accident was cleared by police. 10 casualties evacuated to Molo and Londiani subcounty hospitals. Unfortunately, 5 people (4 men and 1 child) lost their lives," KRCS) stated in a statement shared on X, formerly Twitter.
"Accident Alert@0330hrs: A 14-seater matatu reported to have rammed into a trailer at Londiani area along Kericho Highway. Unconfirmed number of casualties reported," KRCS said in the first statement.
This week, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revealed that 3,609 people had lost their lives in road accidents, from January to October, 2023.
The numbers are however lower than a similar period in 2022, when 3, 936 people lost their lives in road accidents across the country.
According to NTSA data, June accounted for the highest number of fatalities on roads.
January recorded 379 fatalities, February had 340, March 389, April 357 and May had 340.
June had the highest number at 439 fatalities, July 325, August 327, September 338 and October 330 deaths.
