A Homabay Court has sentenced a 14-year-old girl to serve a three-year probation service for attempting to murder her father.
The girl, who hails from Rangwena village, Homa bay Sub County will serve the sentence at Nakuru Girls Probation Hostel.
Probation Officer Michael Onyango Ogollah, said that the girl laced her father’s toothbrush and chapati with bed bug poison on January 2, this year.
The girl told the court that she committed the offense because her father always punished her on allegations that she was a truant and a thief.
The father was rushed to Makongeni Health Centre for emergency treatment after using the toothbrush before spitting out the poison.
After his treatment, he reported the matter to the area Chief who liaised with the police and arrested the minor.
In a statement made by the father, the accused's younger sister told him, the father, that she had seen her sister administer the poison.
He urged the court to hand the accused a custodial sentence for her rehabilitation and for the safety of his family.
The girl's mother also told the court that the home environment was not good as the accused could be a bad influence on the younger siblings.
The 14-year-old remorsefully pleaded with the court for leniency, claiming that her actions were a result of a fit of anger towards her father.
