Two people have died and several others have been seriously injured in a major road accident that occurred in the Taru area, Kwale county.
The incident happened on Sunday morning and involved a collision between a bus and a trailer.
Lydia Mambo, the OCPD of the area, confirmed the sad event, saying that the two vehicles collided head-on, resulting in the deaths of the two people.
"Two people have died and several others have been rushed to the hospital," she said.
The bus involved in the accident was heading to Mombasa from Nairobi and the trailer was heading in the opposite direction when the accident occurred.
According to the OCPD, the two vehicles were speeding and the drivers failed to control them.
Survivors were rushed to various hospitals.
The OCPD said a major traffic jam was observed after the accident, clearing slowly.
The accident comes about a week after two people died in a serious trailer and canter accident on the Nairobi-Mombasa main road in the Samburu sub-county, Kwale.
Going further, the OCPD has urged drivers to be more careful during the festive season.
"There is no need to rush, drive cautiously," she said.
County Communications Director Nicky Gitonga also emphasized that road users should obey traffic rules.
He asked residents to report drivers who are speeding and not to board overcrowded public vehicles.
Gitonga said the safety of every Kenyan matters and drivers should ensure they drive professionally.
