It is just one day after the Ministry of Education announced the release of the results for the KCSE 2022 exam graduates to join higher education institutions, many of these students are already voicing complaints about the selection.

One female student who scored an A minus (-) from Pangani National Girls High School is one of those whose story has been highlighted after being selected to pursue a diploma course at a TVET institution.

According to a report by Citizen TV, the student had high hopes of being selected to join one of the country's universities to pursue her undergraduate studies.

When she submitted her KCSE exam registration number from last year to the code issued by KUCCPS – an institution that offers selection for students to join higher education institutions, she was shocked to find that she was selected to study a course at a TVET institution instead of a university.

The student early Tuesday headed to the KUCCPS offices to lodge her complaint against the selection, which she claimed was unfair to her as she had worked hard in her studies and scored an A-.

"When the message came, I found out that I had been called to Kiambu Institute to take a course in nutrition. And I, having scored an A- in high school, expected to get a course that I had chosen," she said.

However, the student did not receive the help she needed and was told that applications to change courses will only be open next week.

Her concern is that by next week, all the good courses at the universities might be full, and there will be no room to accommodate new students.

"The problem is that by next week all the good courses will have been taken and now I don't know which course or which college to apply to. Also, self-sponsoring for the fee will not be possible because my parents don't have the ability to afford the fee," she said in a voice lacking hope.

The student said her goal and dream is to pursue an undergraduate course that will enable her to graduate as a dentist specialising in dental problems.
