Ms. Kabale Tache Arero has been sworn in as the National Lands Commission (NLC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in an event held at the Supreme Court.

Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu who presided over the event Monday congratulated Ms. Arero on her appointment and swearing in as the Secretary to the National Land Commission.

“Having acted in this capacity, I am sure you are aware that as Chief Executive Officer of this important constitutional commission, you bear a weighty responsibility,” said Mwilu.

She explained that the eight functions of the National Land Commission under Art 67 are critical to realizing the equitable, efficient, productive, and sustainable use and management of land in Kenya.

“Recognizing the centrality of land within our social, economic, and cultural contexts, allow me to draw your attention to the objects of all commissions and independent offices under Article 249; they are to: protect the sovereignty of the people; secure the observance by all State organs of democratic values and principles; and promote constitutionalism,” explained Mwilu.

She added that the Article continues to state that Commissions are subject only to the Constitution and the law; and are independent and not subject to direction or control by any person or authority.

“Consider the honor that has been bestowed upon you to serve the people of Kenya; keep the provisions of Article 249 and the oath you have sworn here today as your unequivocal true North, and you shall without a doubt serve with success and distinction. I wish you all the best in your work and in the delivery of your mandate,” said Mwilu.
