Authorities in Nanyuki have seized ethanol worth over Sh500,000 in Barguret, Kieni East, Nyeri County.

Laikipia East Deputy County Commissioner Patrick Muli speaking at the Nanyuki police station said that they conducted the crackdown through a tip-off from the members of the public.

The authorities however didn't manage to arrest the suspect which they have since launched the manhunt.

“We got a tip-off from the members of the public where we rushed and found seven gallons of ethanol believed to be used to prepare alcohol. It’s astonishing that one gallon can prepare about 220 litres of illicit brew,” said Muli, adding one gallon had a street value of Sh77,000.

The deputy county commissioner said that brewers had devised other ways to prepare illicit alcohol like using ethanol, which was easy and quick to prepare but at the same time dangerous to consume.

He further revealed that they suspected that the ethanol was supplied from Nakuru County, while calling on residents to be vigilant and alert the authorities in an effort to win the war against illicit brews in the region.

Still, in the Barguret area, one suspect was arrested with Marijuana of unknown value and taken to Nanyuki police station, awaiting to be arraigned in court.

Muli urged parents against harbouring their children who conduct criminal activities, but instead report them to the authorities for counselling and behavioural change.

“Parents stop harbouring criminals, at least give us time to do our work. Young people need to be corrected in the right way,” urged Muli.
