The construction of Mbugua Mbugua road and drainage system in Nakuru City is set to ease the flow of stormwater as the residents laud the timeliness of the project to avert flooding.
The project in Nakuru West Sub County is 95 percent complete, with the disaster preparedness committee calling on residents to stop solid waste dumping that would cause clogging of the drains.
The Committee Chair County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara and his Co-Chair Acting County Secretary, Dr. Samuel Mwaura, mapped out areas prone to flooding including Rhonda in Nakurur West, in a bid to address the potential impacts of the anticipated El Nino rains.
“We have pooled together various stakeholders including the security agents, hospitals, and national and county administrators to manage the city’s response team that will be involved in surveillance, response, and public education as the rains are already here with us.
“We urge residents to stop dumping wastes that could be swept to these drains as that will mean clogged drainages and flooding for nearby homes and business premises,” noted Commissioner Kibaara.
Nakuru County has adopted a multi-stakeholder approach by collaborating with various stakeholders including the national administration, security teams, and hospitals.
County Secretary Dr. Samwel Mwaura, accompanied by CECM PSTD Roselyn Mungai and City Manager Mr. Gitau Thabanja, inspected the project's progress in Rhonda, Nakuru West Sub County which is almost complete, with a 95% implementation rate noted.
Speaking during an inspection tour of Mbugua Mbugua, Dr. Mwaura emphasized the need to ensure all infrastructure development projects meet the required standards.
“The county government has taken a proactive stance on this matter and there is a need for collective efforts from relevant stakeholders especially in high-risk zones,” Dr Mwaura emphasized.
