Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has hit out at former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta, over her recent statement accusing Deputy President William Ruto of having ill intentions for the country.
Addressing mourners at the burial of one of her relatives in Gatundu South, Kiambu county, on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, Mama Ngina Kenyatta said Uhuru and Ruto were close and working well, until the latter made a decision to focus on his presidential campaigns ahead of August 09, 2022 polls.
“He (Uhuru) didn’t have a problem with Ruto. But if your deputy shows you disrespect, would you really stick there? You will move on," she said as quoted by the Star.
Concerning those who have taken it upon themselves to abuse the president during political rallies, she said such leaders lack good morals.
“If you were not brought up being taught how to abuse others when growing up at home, even when you go to the public, you cannot be able to abuse others.
"So let me tell those who are going round abusing others, we will leave them alone if that is how they were taught to be abusive when they were growing up,” she added.
Reacting to Mama Ngina’s remarks, Senator Cherargei urged the former first lady to stay off politics, adding that by making such statements she puts herself on the firing lane.

“I wish she would keep off politics of the day. I’m surprised Mama Ngina is saying Ruto has ill intention yet he supported Uhuru in 2013… The remarks were unfortunate and uncalled for...Some of us know it is more of business interest. They are only focused on protecting their wealth but DP Ruto has already assured them he will protect their wealth,” he said during an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday morning.
Senator Cherargei further noted that there are many things Mama Ngina can channel her energy towards instead of playing politics. He listed raising grandchildren, praying for the country and training pastors as some of the things the former first lady should concentrate on.
“Respect is two ways. If Mama Ngina plays politics and stays in the firing line, some of these things must be put into context. She should keep off politics, concentrate on raising grandchildren and praying and advising the country.
She should be carrying out motherhood sensitization, preaching peace and if she finds time she can join fellowship, doing what we call kesha and even training pastors and clergy to preach the word of God across the country.,” Cherargei divulged.
