Azimio sets date for first dialogue meeting with Kenya Kwanza

By Peter Ochieng

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition wants talks with the Kenya Kwanza faction to start as soon as possible.

As such, the Raila Odinga led political outfit has written to Kenya Kwanza, with a proposed date for the first meeting, which is expected to set the talks in motion.

In the letter signed by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Azimio wants the first meeting to be held on Monday next week, with the hope that the talks conclude by end of this month.

“In light of the urgency of the issues, the anxiety of our people and in the interest of a speedy resolution to the issues afflicting our nation, we extend an invitation to the Kenya Kwanza national dialogue team...for the initial joint meeting of both parties at the Serena Hotel, Nairobi on Monday, August 7 2023, at 11am,” wrote Kalonzo.

The former Vice President is the Azimio delegation team leader.

"While a lot of hardworking will be needed to resolve issues at hand, we believe a speedy start and a time bound program is necessary to put the nation at ease. Consequently, we believe this process should come to an end at the close of August 2023.”

Leader of Majority in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung'wah said he will speak to Kalonzo, so that they settle on an agreeable date.

“I will have a conversation with the Azimio delegation leader (Kalonzo Musyoka) and agree on a mutually agreeable date when talks can commence,” he stated.

The talks are expected to reduce tension in the country, after weeks of anti-government demos by the opposition.
