Simba Arati speaks on GSU raid at his offices

Peter Ochieng

Kisii governor Paul Simba Arati has addressed a security raid at his Gusii Stadium offices.

The stadium serves as Arati's secondary offices.

He arrived on Monday morning only to be blocked by a continent of security officers, attached to the General Service Unit (GSU).

Addressing the press on the issue, the first term county boss wondered whom the officers, reportedly from Kisumu were dispatched to arrest.

"I demand to know who dispatched GSU officers from Kisumu to this location. Whom do they intend to apprehend?" paused the former Member of Parliament (MP).

"I was instructed not to enter my office, as GSU officers were strategically stationed at every stadium entry point. I have done no wrong, and if this was indeed part of an ongoing investigation, I would have expected the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to be leading the charge."

He attributed his woes to what he said was his resolve to fight corruption, and his bid to uplift the livelihoods of boda boda riders in the county.

"During his election campaign, President William Ruto promised to address the concerns of bodaboda riders. The establishment of the sacco under my supervision was a fulfillment of that promise. What better contribution could I have made?"

It is not clear why police are persuing him. However, the governor is allegedly under the radar for 'corruption and hooliganism.'

The county boss has over the past few years had a frosty relationship with Silvanus Osoro, the Majority chief whip in the national assembly.

Osoro warned that police officers will camp in the county to tame what her termed as hooliganism.

Arati, the former Dagoretti South Memberhas been at loggerheads with some leaders in president William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration.

Weeks ago, the governor said he cannot agree with someone who says the government is like a company with shareholders, sentiments directed at deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
