Baringo County assembly on Wednesday unanimously approved the nomination of 19 Chief Officer (CO) nominees forwarded to the house by Governor Benjamin Cheboi.
This is after the assembly held a special sitting to consider a report by sectoral committees which had conducted vetting of the nominees who are awaiting to be sworn into office.
During the whole day session presided over by Deputy Speaker Kipruto Kimosop, Ann Chewochei (Agriculture), Dr Winnie Bore (Medical Services), Silas Kwonyike (Roads and Transport), Victor Kandie (Culture, Social Services and Heritage while Nancy Chesire and Nancy Korir were approved as Lands and Tourism chief officers respectively.
Dennis Korir was approved for Youth affairs, Kimani Waiharo (Education), James Chepkonga (Devolution), Gikono Kiptoo (Finance), and Milkah Chelagat (Water).
They were all recommended having scored a rating of between 65.1 percent and 91.6 percent with the highest score being awarded to Public Service nominee Charles Kipkulei whom the committee pointed out that as being well versed with his docket.
Mumberes /Maji Mazuri Ward MCA Solomon Kuria took special recognition on two of the nominees working as directors in the department of Finance who have been promoted as CO in the same department.
He stated that the two who have been promoted will play an important role in guiding others so that they can assist the country administration achieve its agenda.
However, Sacho MCA John Tarus took issue with one of the nominees who he claimed was former education CO but ECDE centres stalled under his watch.
Tarus urged fellow MCAs not to approve the name saying several water tanks which were supposed to be distributed to ECDE Centres in Tiaty Sub County were stolen therefore forcing the previous regime to invite EACC to probe the matter.
Saimo Soi MCA Michael Cherombor and Mukutani Counterpart Paul Lolgisoi defend the appointee whom they said pushed for the employment of over 1,000 ECDE teachers as well as construction of several classrooms during his leadership.
The approval of the 19 nominees comes in the wake of an earlier scare after the MCAs mid last month rejected the list citing opaque selection and lack of regional balance.
They ordered Governor Benjamin Cheboi to supply them with the requisite information on the 19 nominees before they began the vetting process.
