Baringo County Executive Committee signs performance contracts

Baringo County government is set to conduct an impact assessment on all its staff in a bid to improve service delivery.
Speaking when he presided over the signing of a performance contracts for ten county executive committees (CECs) at his Kabarnet office Tuesday, Governor Benjamin Cheboi said he has tasked the research department and performance contracting unit to regularly evaluate the performance for the county administration to achieve the desired success.
He noted that the two units which would be documenting results of each department on an annual basis, will highlight on the programmes and initiatives by the respective heads of department in impacting on the lives of residents.
“After every concluding period of evaluation, everyone must showcase their accomplishments and illustrate ways in which they have executed their work,” the Baringo boss said.
He stated that the move is a step ahead towards improvement of services in all the departments and demand for questions where there is laxity.
“We want to make sure that the time to enter a hospital and be given sufficient treatment will be between ten to 15 minutes,” said Cheboi.
The governor who stated that the performance contracting would be cascaded down up to junior staff, urged CECs to be dedicated in their work and warned of serious consequences to those who would be found culpable of embezzling public funds.
Deputy Governor Eng. Felix Kimaiyo said it is only through commitment of all staff that the county would be ranked among the best performing countrywide.
Eng. Kimaiyo challenged the CECs who signed their performance contracts to deliver beyond expectation since they were chosen among many.
County Public Service Board chairman Joseph Korir cautioned staff that if their performance is below average, they would face sanctions when appraisals would be released at the end of every year.
He urged them to deliver on their mandate so that they could also get promotions and rewards for jobs well done.
County Secretary Jacob Chepkwony called for cascading of the performance contracting exercise to other service boards’ sectors within the county including Kirandich, Chemususu and Municipality so that all the cadres could move in unison.
CEC for Devolution Peninah Bartuin urged departments to set respective targets for their work to check on their progress.
She lauded the county administration for introducing the culture of performance contracting which is crucial in improvement of standards of management in all departments.
