Baringo man accused of armed robbery released on Sh 300,000 bond

A middle-aged man accused of using an illegal firearm to steal Sh 480,000 from an unsuspecting victim has been released on a Sh 300,000 bond by a Kabarnet court.

Krop Tomuny who appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Edwin Mulochi on Thursday was charged with robbery with violence contrary to Section 295 as read with Section 296 (2) of the Penal Code CAP.63 Laws of Kenya.

Tomuny is accused that on September 19, 2023, at an unknown time in Tiaty East sub-county within Baringo county, jointly with others not before the court while armed with an AK47 rifle robbed Woche Doti Duba his Sh 480,000.

He pleaded not guilty to the accusations presented to the court.

“Your honor, I am not agreeing to charges read to me because I never did such a thing,” the suspect said.

The court was told that Tomuny with other accomplices fired two gunshots from the AK47 which caused the victim to quickly surrender the money before fleeing the scene.

Mulochi granted him a Sh 300,000 bond plus one surety of the same amount and slated his case to be mentioned on October 12 this year.

Meanwhile, at the same court, Isaac Baskwony was arraigned and charged with manslaughter after he allegedly killed Maxwell Juma Masika.

Baskwony is said to have committed the offence on September 21, 2023, at around 6:00 a.m. at Kampi U plot junction-Loboi village Yatoi sub-location Marigat location in Baringo county.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges. Mulochi ordered the accused to be released on Sh 200,000 bond plus one surety and that his case be mentioned on October 27 to give a hearing date. Five witnesses are lined up to testify before the court.
