Boda boda riders in Loitoktok Sub County have been urged to observe traffic rules while conducting their businesses.
During a Loitoktok Sub County boda boda officials’ sensitization forum held in Loitoktok Town on Wednesday organized by Watu Credit company, 30 boda boda officials were urged to educate their members on the importance of reflective gear, the dangers of speeding, ensuring functioning side mirrors, and the necessity of possessing a valid driving license.
While sensitizing the leaders Loitoktok Sub County Traffic Base Commander Daniel Gitonga urged the riders to prioritize safety measures to reduce road carnage.
An official working with Watu Credit Company James Karani urged boda boda riders to enroll in the Watu Shule driving programme at a reasonable fee to equip themselves with essential driving skills to enhance their professionalism and safety on the roads.
Kajiado County Boda Boda Association Chairman Alex Gitari called for unity among the riders, stressing the importance of solidarity and cooperation to overcome challenges facing the sub-sector collectively.
Gitari said they planned to approach the County Commissioner to request for competitive tournaments for boda riders to help unite them in Kajiado County.
The chairman said the tournaments would not only promote comradeship but also provide an opportunity to showcase the skills and talents within the Boda community.
On challenges affecting the boda boda sector in the county, Gitari noted that the contentious parking fees imposed on boda boda riders.
On electric bikes, the chairman advocated for riders to embrace this eco-friendly mode of transportation, emphasizing the potential benefits of electric bikes in reducing environmental impact and cutting operational costs for riders.
The boda boda officials appealed to politicians to engage with them beyond the confines of politics, calling for continuous dialogue and a willingness to understand the challenges faced by boda riders.
