Bungoma job seekers warned against engaging in bribery

By Peter Ochieng

Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka on Tuesday pledged to ensure fairness and transparency, in the recruitment of County Public Service (CPS) employees.

Addressing residents during the 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations at Posta grounds, Lusaka warned against the culture of bribery, both for job seekers and those involved in the recruitment process.

“I will not tolerate corruption in the county recruitment exercise. Those found guilty will face the consequences,” he warned.

The governor acknowledged concerns about unfair practices in the recently advertised Chief Officer positions, assuring members of the public that the County Public Service Board is committed to a meritocratic selection exercise.

"Only qualified candidates will be hired. Don't believe any rumors," he stated.

On the ongoing application process for the county scholarship program, Lusaka promised fair and transparent selection of deserving beneficiaries.

"This program is designed to support needy and vulnerable students. All applicants will be thoroughly evaluated to ensure that scholarships are awarded to those who truly deserve them."

He regretted the fact that various surveys have placed Bungoma among counties with high rates of teenage pregnancies.

"I am ashamed to say that many surveys have ranked Bungoma county as top in matters of gender-based violence and teenage pregnancy. This is a label that we must reverse and do so collectively."

"I urge you youths not to destroy your future by exposing yourselves to early pregnancies, HIV infection or other sexually transmitted diseases. The scriptures tell us that good things come to those who wait, so please be patient and you will enjoy long life," he added.

Kanduyi Member of Parliament (MP) John Makali was among those present.

The first term MP thanked President William Ruto for increasing bursary allocation to 40 percent.

"I am pleased that the President approved the amendment of the NG-CDF bill, increasing Bursary allocation to 40% of NG-CDF funds—a significant step in the right direction. Education serves as a powerful tool against the other two vices; poverty and disease," noted the MP.

He urged parents to play their rightful parental role by protecting the girl-child from early pregnancy, and keepung children away from drugs during this long holiday.
