Business Resumes to Normalcy in Kisii

Traders in Kisii town resumed their everyday business operations on the third day of Azimio-led protests after the town remained deserted on the previous two days of the protests.

A spot check by KNA through the Kisii CBD revealed that most traders had opened their businesses as usual in the morning and PSV operators had resumed their services at the Kisii Main Stage.

Notably, there was a heavy police presence in the town at different spots to counter any violent protests that could arise.

Speaking to KNA, Benard Bosire who is a phone vendor, said he had opted to open his business on Friday since he has suffered losses due to the closure of his business over the last two days.

“Some of us come to work every day in order to fend for our families. We are hustlers who depend on daily profits and one day of not operating the business definitely affects us,” Bosire said.

He noted the ongoing anti-government protests are occasioned by chaos which makes it unsafe for businesses to run normally.

The phone vendor urged the government to consider reducing the cost of living for Kenyans saying the majority of the people are unable to provide basic needs for their families at the moment.

Justus Okemwa, who sells bags at the Capital roundabout, pointed out that customers had significantly reduced in the town because most people had stayed at home due to the tension brought about by the demonstrations.

“I do not see the need for protesting because it has brought businesses many losses, as from Wednesday, we had not opened or sold our products. However, we were forced to cater for our fare and Municipal fees just like during the normal business hours,” said Okemwa.

Yesterday, there was minimal activity within the town with most traders opting to close their businesses for fear of looting or vandalism by the demonstrators.
