Pastoralist Girls Initiative, a non-governmental organization based in Masalani is going to give out cash transfer to 700 households in the outskirt of Masalani Town, Ijara sub County, Garissa County.
Speaking during a Sub County Steering Group Committee meeting held at Masalani Deputy County Commissioner’s board room, Ijara Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mr Wachira Chamtpon said about 700 households will receive Sh 11,500 per household for the next six months.
Wachira lauded the programme saying it will assist the less fortunate members in the sub-County with cash thus supplementing the government’s efforts to support the residents to mitigate effects of climate change and drought that has engulfed the area for too long.
The DCC noted that non-governmental organisations operating in the region should go through the sub County steering group committee to avoid duplication of resources in one region.
The Deputy Director for Pastoralist Girls Initiative Mr Mohamed Mohamud Muthow noted that the cash transfer will ensure that the girl child does not go to school on an empty stomach.
He said the area targeted for the initiative is Muhumed Dahir Village, Qalaqal Derrow and part of Gona Village and Cathey Weynow villages in the outskirt of Masalani town which is the headquarters of Ijara Sub County.
The committee proposed meetings be held monthly so that the programme of the all departmental heads and non-governmental organisations are presented to the committee for service delivery.
The DDC chaired his first sub-County steering group committee meeting in Ijara Sub County which was attended by all departmental heads Sub County Security Team, local leaders and Masalani watchdog group led by Mr. Abdullahi Abdi and Mr Adan Ismail for peace building and Imams and Sheikh Ahmed Abass from the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) among others.
