Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has distanced himself from the involvement or knowledge in the impeachment proceedings against the Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking on September 24, 2024, Cherargei made it known that such a matter, if representing the coalition's stance, was of immense importance and warranted a parliamentary group meeting.

"The president is a man who can always say something, and he has never said a word on this issue," Cherargei said in expression of surprise over the continued debate.

He reiterated his respect for the deputy president and the coalition, adding that no one has formally started a discussion within party ranks on the issue.

This comes amid growing unease over the position of the deputy president in government.

Former Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru took to her social media platform, addressing what she viewed as a deafening silence by the Head of State over the matter and termed it a betrayal of Gachagua.

Waruguru passionately defended the deputy president in her statement, saying, "How has the President forgotten the relentless effort our son, Rigathi, physically, financially, and spiritually went through to make this government get to power?"

Waruguru's remarks reflect deep-sided loyalty to Gachagua, questioning how a president would be trusted in case of an impeachment against a deputy president who sacrificed everything for the administration.

Meanwhile, Tana River Governor Danson Mungatana was even more critical of Gachagua.

Mungatana said the deputy president has turned his back on his mandate and embarked on protecting the interests of the Mt. Kenya region.

"He started off as the deputy president, but he has taken a tangent as a protector of only the Mt. Kenya Region. What he is doing is wrong," Mungatana declared, pinpointing his grievances with Gachagua's leadership.

Mungatana, who filed the motion for impeachment, believes Gachagua has consistently made poor decisions, jeopardizing the broader interests of the country.

These three voices represent the contrastive views on the political terrain on what should happen to the future of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Whereas people like Waruguru view his impeachment as a betrayal of trust and loyalty, others, like Mungatana, think it serves to right the leadership misstep.
