Kisii County Commissioner, Tom Anjere on Thursday cautioned national government administration officers (NGAOs) against protecting those engaging in criminal activities within the community.

Speaking during the installation of a new chief in Kegogi location, Marani Sub County, Anjere said chiefs and assistant chiefs found culpable of protecting perpetrators will be reprimanded.

"I want to issue a warning that we will only work with chiefs and assistant chiefs who meet our expectations. Those who will use their positions to protect community members who engage in criminal activities such as gender-based violence will be relieved of their duties," he said.

Anjere pointed out that chiefs have a huge responsibility of addressing emerging issues within the community as well as amplifying government policies to the community members.

He noted that NGAOs must work very hard to reclaim the lost glory in the government offices at the grassroots level because previously, the officers were highly respected members of the community.

Further, Anjere encouraged the officers to pursue further education and upgrade their skills so that they can compete for senior positions in future as well as seek the wise counsel of retired chiefs and assistant chiefs in the community.

He lauded the newly appointed chief who previously served as an assistant chief in Nyakora sub-location and urged him to serve the community diligently and without bias.

The CC pointed out that the government was committed to filling all the vacant positions at the location and sub location levels within the next three months and encouraged the residents who meet the set requirements to apply for the same when the positions are advertised.

Residents of Kegogi expressed their gratitude to the government following the inauguration of the new chief saying they will work together to promote peaceful co-existence among the community members.
