CJ Koome Appoints 100 magistrates to streamline war on graft

Chief Justice Martha Koome has appointed 100 magistrates to handle corruption and economic crimes cases in various jurisdictions across the country

In a gazette notice issued on Friday,Koome said the magistrates will continue serving in their current court stations but be prepared for any future deployments.

Among the appointed magistrates are; Martha Akoth Opanga, Winfrida Onkunya Kemunto, Moses Wanyonyi Wanjala, Charles Mwaniki Kamau, Alice Chemosop Towett, and Rose Mugeni Ndombi.

Others include; Willy Kipkoech Cheruiyot, Margaret Wanjeri Murage, David Muchangi Ireri, Herbert Inonda Mwendwa, and Becky Mulemia Cheloti.

The appointments are effective from the October 8, 2024. 

The Magistrates will operate in different regions, ensuring comprehensive jurisdictional coverage to deal with these offenses more effectively.

The move by CJ Koome comes amid calls by the public for accountability, integrity, and transparency in government institutions.

By appointing magistrates to handle these cases, the Judiciary aims to ensure that corruption cases are expedited and dealt with effectively, reinforcing Kenya's anti-corruption agenda..
