Commissioner issues Traffic guidelines during Mashujaa Day Celebrations

Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Dr. Abdi M. Hassan has issued traffic guidelines to be followed tomorrow during the Mashujaa Day Celebrations to be held in Kericho County to be presided over by President William Ruto.   

Speaking at a media breakfast meeting in Kericho, the RC said that to decongest Kericho town, an elaborate plan in collaboration with KenHA has been put in place to direct and divert vehicles and motor cycles to use the following designated by-passes beginning 19/10/2023 at 5pm to 20/10/2023 at 5pm.

He said that all vehicles from Bomet/Litein general direction heading to Kisumu will be required to divert at Premier Junction then proceed to Kabianga University to Sosiot and join the Kericho/ Kisumu highway at Kapsoit.

Dr Hassan said that vehicles from Bomet/Litein general direction heading to Nakuru will divert at Premier junction then proceed to Kabianga University to Chepnyogaa shopping centre then turn right and proceed to Tegat, then to Kipchimchim to Brooke then to Nakuru.

Another diversion, all vehicles from Bomet/Litein general direction will divert at Kipsigis Girls to Tegat Kisumu Junction.

All motorists from Nakuru to Kisumu are advised to use Londiani, Muhoroni and join the Kisumu Kericho highway at Kipsitet area.

The RC further said that all motorists from Nakuru going to Bomet/Sotik/Kisii to divert at Brooke and proceed to Kipchimchim up to Tegat then to Chepnyogaa to Premier and join the Kericho Litein road.

Dr Hassan stated that Kericho main stage will be closed for the public and reserved as a parking zone for the vulnerable and the aged.

He added that Moi Garden, ACK Church and Emmanuel Church are reserved parking for VVIPs, Diplomats, VIPs and service providers whose vehicles will have Red, Blue and White stickers respectively for identification.

The administrator said, Eland primary school will be a reserved parking for the VVIPs and Diplomats next to the police station. He said that KenHA has erected reflective road signs on the said roads to guide motorists.

Dr Hassan said that in order to ease traffic heading to the stadium and to the County Commissioners’ residence, some roads will be temporarily closed with effect from 19/10/2023 at 5pm to 20/10/2023 at 5pm. Only motor vehicles with Red, Blue or white stickers will be allowed passage.

The RC gave details on the blocking zones and are indicated hereafter namely, Kericho Day Secondary school along Kericho-Nakuru road near Shell petrol station. Vehicles and motor cycles from Nakuru general direction will be parked at the said school.

Siloam Hospital along Kericho-Bomet-Kisumu highway. Vehicles and motor cycles from Bomet will be directed to park at Kericho Primary School.

At Nyagacho near the bridge, vehicles and motor cycles from Kisumu and Kipchimchim general direction will be parked at Kericho Township Primary and Secondary Schools.

At the Junction to Kericho Golf Club, vehicles and motor cycles will not be allowed to access the town but be diverted to Kericho Primary school for parking.

PSVs will not be allowed to access the main stage or town. They will drop and pick passengers at the above-mentioned parking zones.

Dr. Abdi Hassan assured all motorists and the Mashujaa goers that security will be provided at all the parking zones. Motorists and motorcycle riders are advised to comply with direction given by the police. The RC advised all motorists to ensure that they lock their motor vehicles and motor cycles as a security measure.
