Residents of Katito Town, Kisumu County have decried rising insecurity in the town, claiming that their businesses are being vandalized in broad daylight while people coming from work late in the night are attacked and robbed.
The residents called on the leadership of Nyakach to find solutions to the insecurity menace in the area even as they challenged the business owners too to ensure they secure their premises.
Responding to the issue, Agoro West Chief Ms. Elizabeth Ajwang said that security measures have been tightened and warned criminals in the area that they would be dealt with according to the law.
Ajwang said that the community had instituted patrol teams in the area and over 15 culprits have been apprehended and arraigned before court.
“We won't leave Katito in the hands of the police officers and watchmen alone because they are few individuals against very many tasks; we have declared Katito a no go zone for criminals and are warning those still at large to vacate the area,” she said. The residents vowed that they will do all it takes to ensure security prevails in Katito saying it would be the only way to spruce up development and grow the town. “Let the leaders help us on matters security by conducting raids so that the thieves do not get room to escape,” said Mr. David Okech.
Okech divulged that during their night patrols, they apprehended a young man and found him with a master key with the intention of breaking into some premises. “We are warning the would-be thieves in Katito to vacate the area or they will meet with the full force of the law,” he warned.
A Jua Kali trader who hails from Gem, Mr. Nick Odhiambo said the greatest challenge in Katito was insecurity made worse by the fact that the business owners employed old men who could not keep alert at night as watchmen.
