A section of cyclists is accusing the Kenya Cycling Federation of insufficient promotion of the sport.
They urged the government to intervene and call for urgent elections.
Led by the Siaya cycling club chairman, Odhiambo Dok, the cyclists said the current officials of the federation are to blame for the slow death of the sport, adding that urgent steps are required to ensure that cycling reclaims its position among the top sporting activities in the country.
Speaking to the media in Siaya town, Dok who is also the chairman of the Siaya county Triathlon association petitioned the cabinet secretary for sports, Ababu Namwamba to urgently call for elections to usher in new leadership into the federation.
He pointed out that lack of leadership has led to cyclists remaining dormant, without competition since 2020, and they require support from well-wishers.
Shelton Majid Adisa, a cyclist, criticized lack of efforts to bring in fresh talent into the competitive cycling scene in the country.
She said that though the country has a lot of talents that could be harnessed to make cycling competitive, nothing much was being done to bring in fresh blood into the game.
Thus, Adisa warned that if the sport is not revived, there is a risk of losing the talents among the youth.
