Uasin Gishu gears for the 3rd County Statistical Abstract 2024

The County Government of Uasin Gishu and the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), working together with other partners have launched preparations of the 3rd County Statistical Abstract 2024 (CSA 2024)
Speaking in Eldoret, during their engagement with other various stakeholders including heads of departments drawn from both the county and national government, the County Executive for Finance and Economic Planning, Micah Rogony, pointed out that the CSA 2024 preparation is a very important undertaking, as it will highlight key statistical data on the social, political and economic status for the county, by providing a reliable source of statistical information.
Rogony noted that the county published its first publication in 2015, the latest being 2021, with the information for the period of 5 years from 2016 to 2020. The documents were disseminated to various departments and agencies.
“This initiative is not just about numbers and data, it is about fostering informed evidence-based decision making, objectivity in resource allocation and use,” he said.
“The 3rd CSA 2024 we are going to embark on will be a repository of information for the county to help it identify gaps and challenges, ways to address them and identify potential areas,” he added.
The County Executive alluded to the fact that in this ever-changing world, having accurate data is more crucial than ever before because the county is evolving and so are the needs of the residents.
Rogony further noted that the CSA is a dynamic tool which is constantly updated to reflect the progress of the county in terms of socio-economic and political perspectives, adding that they are working together bringing the collective integrity and expertise from KNBS and all the stakeholders to achieve the goals and objectives.
On his part, the Chief Officer for Finance Eliud Chemaget said CSA is an important entity in economic planning as it provides a framework that will give guidance to the county administration to effectively implement the County Integrated Development Plans (CIDPs), Annual Development Plans (ADPs) and all other plans.
“We rely on data to make decisions on planning, budgeting and other processes. We must say when we need to implement the CIDP and ADP, it is this particular data that is going to help us in better decision making,” he said.
The Chief Officer affirmed the department’s commitment to working together with other partners to ensure this process is fruitful.
In his remarks as he officially launched the preparation of the 3rd CSA 2024, Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Dr. Eddyson Nyale pointed out that data is very key for government planning and decision.
He urged stakeholders and all the heads of departments to take the exercise with utmost seriousness to enable deriving of factual report for the Uasin Gishu County Statistical Abstract CSA 2023.
He noted that the government through the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) is keen to ensure that the data for all citizens is protected.
The county commissioner commended all the departmental heads from both the national and county governments for heeding call to participate in the important exercise.
On his part, The Director Statistical Coordination and Methods at KNBS Benjamin Avusevwa said that data is the most crucial thing to provide a factual basis to assess all courses in the society.
“Statistical data is the new gold, the course we should use to change our lives, it fuels decision making and progress, let us pool resources together to achieve this goal,” he noted.
The Director mentioned that data obtained from the statistics is very key to know our present and know what we should do in order to improve services in every sector of our economy.
Avusevwa added that KNBS had made significant steps in developing various statistical standards to provide information about information collected on a particular topic that assists in the understanding and interpretation of that data.
