Detectives investigate Sh1.3 million fraud case

Detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kajiado South Sub County are investigating a case whereby a woman from Ilasit area was conned of Sh1.83 million.

James Kilonzo, the lead detective attached at Ilasit Police Station, while applying for a miscellaneous application, prayed to court to allow the detectives to detain Emmaculate Njeri alias Fridah Gatwiri and Titus Kiplimo for 14 days to allow conclusion of investigations.

According to Kilonzo, Gatwiri was brought to Ilasit Police Station on September 14 by Salome Njeri after allegedly conning her Sh1,833,100 on false pretense that she was in capacity to sell her 600 bags of maize.

Her accomplice, Kiplimo was arrested when he visited Gatwiri at Ilasit police station after he was positively identified by an employee of the complainant.

The two allegedly committed the offence with other six fraudsters who are still at large however, the detectives said Gatwiri is willing to lead them to their areas of residence believed to be within Mombasa, Kiambu and Kirinyaga Counties.

Gatwiri also is willing to refund the money defrauded from the complainant and so far, has refunded Sh200,000.

The court granted the detectives 7 days to conclude the investigations and directed the two suspects to be detained at Ilasit police Station pending investigations with the matter being set for mention on September 25, 2023.
