Women groups in the Ngoshwash area in Narok South Sub County have benefited from Sh1 million to improve their businesses, thanks to the National Government Action Affirmative Fund (NGAAF) that sponsored the women.

While issuing the cheque in the area, Narok County Women Representative Rebecca Tonkei said she would continue supporting women groups in the county so that they could boost their level of income and livelihood.

Among the projects the Ngoshwash women are implementing is a water project, where they have dug a water pan that benefits all the homesteads in the area and for livestock consumption.

“I am happy that one person donated one acre of land to the community where the water pan has been dug. This water benefits the whole community. I will continue supporting the community so that you can get clean water near your homesteads,” she said.

The first-time MP also committed to continue supporting children from poor backgrounds to acquire education saying NGAAF has given full scholarships to many girls from vulnerable backgrounds in the county.

“I am a member of the Education Committee in the National Assembly so I champion the right of children to acquire education. I want my county to lead as an example,” she said.

Another project that the Women's Representative has been actively championing is beadwork, where she supports various women's groups to market their beadwork abroad.

This has helped boost the livelihood of the Maa women, who mostly depend on making various kinds of artifacts that they sell locally and abroad to earn a living.

On the Affordable Housing Bill, the UDA MP said many citizens were supporting the bill because they would earn a fortune from it.

She said the Kenya Kwanza Administration was committed to implementing the promises it gave to the residents which include: creating job opportunities and providing decent housing at a cheap price to low-income earners.
