Over 7,500 people with disabilities have appealed to Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo to help them transform their living standards through empowering them socially, politically and economically.

Isiolo County Chairman of PWD Abdi Wako said that they would like the governor to ensure that their plights are addressed by his government as the County officials and politicians had neglected them and only sought for them during election time.

He said that their Wheelchair Race Team took part and were runners-up in a regional competition over the weekend and they have not benefited from any form of support despite the County government claiming that Sh.400, 000 was set aside to enable their participation.

“It is a shame that the visiting teams were the ones who bought us lunch yet we were the host county while the government officials sneaked out of the playing ground and switched off their phones when the race started and left racers in problem,’’ Wako claimed.

The chairman said that no official has ever come out to congratulate the team despite the exemplary performance among eight counties that took part in the race.

Mr Wako and his vice chair Mr Muhamud Ibrahim urged the governor to convene a meeting with them instead of sending the senior officers whom they claimed had sometimes been leaving them in the boardroom without finishing addressing their issues.

Mr Ibrahim said that it is vital that governor Guyo meet them this time because the last two regimes failed to address their agenda despite having a representation of one of their own in the County Assembly.

When contacted education, youth and sport County Executive Committee Member Ms Aileen Kajuju said they have not refused to pay them and urged them to be patient as the county has no funds.

Ms Kajuju said that the county appreciates them for taking the second position and a gift of Sh 75, 000. She added that her office would pay them as soon as the treasury releases funds to the County.
