Drug traffickers kill police officer, injure three

A police officer on patrol was shot dead by armed drug and human traffickers along Yamicha-Dogogicha area in Isiolo County.

Confirming the incident yesterday, the area County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding said that three other officers were injured in the 7.00 pm Monday incident when the traffickers ambushed them.

The administrator said that the three injured officers would be airlifted for specialised treatment in Nairobi.

Mr Omoding added that 11police officers were on normal patrol along the Mata-arba-Nanu road when the criminals suspected to be drug and human traffickers attacked them while they were heading to Merti Police station.

The County security chairman said that security reinforcement was employed so as to pursue the suspects adding that drones will also be used to assist the police officers in tracking down the criminals.

“It is only two months ago since security officers used drones to help them trace 30 immigrants who were hiding in bushes after the human traffickers dumped them upon realising they were being followed by the policemen,” he said.

At the same time Mr Omoding appealed to Wananchi to make available information on the notorious drugs and human traffickers so that the suspects could be apprehended in a bid to stop the crime.
