The Makueni CECM for Trade, Marketing and Tourism Mr. Peter Mumo has said efforts are being made to promote local Tourism.
Mr. Mumo said the county has many attractive sites including waterfalls, hills, and natural forests which offer alluring sceneries that people can go and view, hence promoting domestic tourism.
For instance, he said tourists would be pleased to view and hike Nzaui and Kilungu hills, besides watching other scenic areas of Makueni. Other sites, he added include caves and waterfalls at Ilovoto along Kaiti River.
“We have geographical sceneries like hills where people can do hiking and also waterfalls, caves and natural forests like Makuli, Mbooni and Kilungu. Indeed, tourists would enjoy the good landscape in Makueni,” said Mumo on Thursday while speaking to KNA in his Wote town office.
At the same time, he said that the county has many good hotels that visitors can be accommodated. “We have hotels in Tawa, Wote and along Mombasa road for holding tourism conferences with good food, and conference rooms,” he said.
Further the ECM said that the county has also improved the road network to the sites besides the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) that provides transport to these areas.
Mumo disclosed that his department had launched tourism circuit programme that include taking photos and videos to help in creating awareness to the public, hence promoting local tourism.
