Ekuru Aukot advises Ruto on how to deal with opposition
By Peter Ochieng
Third Way Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot on Tuesday dismissed the ongoing bipartisan talks between the government and the opposition.
Aukot says by agreeing to the talks between his Kenya Kwanza administration and the opposition outfit - Azimio La Umoja One Kenya, president William Ruto is telling the country that he did not win the 2022 presidential contest fairly.
He said the dialogue spearheaded by Azimio's Kalonzo Musyoka and Kenya Kwanza's Kimani Ichung'wah is a waste of time and resources.
"The problem with these talks is that they are a waste of time and resources, but it also in a way confirms that president William Ruto isn’t confident that he actually won the election fairly. If he did, and I believe he did, why is he entertaining a conversation with someone who lost?”
He went ahead to advise the president on how to deal with the Raila Odinga led opposition, 'once and for all.'
“This conversation on this country is being reduced to Raila and Ruto yet Kenya belongs to more than 50 million people. If I were president Ruto, I would tell the opposition that if they have a problem with my leadership, they need to go through Parliament and file a motion of censure or impeachment," he said.
Top on the list of the Azimio-Kenya Kwanza talks is the audit of the 2022 presidential election results.
On Sunday while speaking in Kisii, Musyoka said issues of the 2027 election should not come up for discussion, before the '2022 electoral justice' is settled.
“Before we talk of 2027, we must settle 2022 and that is why we have the bipartisan talks. We want to settle election injustice."
On the other hand, president William Ruto is reportedly seeking to introduce the position of leader of opposition, in what he says is the need to provide proper check of his government.
However, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is among key Kenya Kwanza figures opposed to the talks.
