Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders has pleaded with President William Ruto to fast-track the implementation of Generation Z’s demands to restore peace in the country.

The elders who gave a press briefing at their Nchiru shrine headquarters after observing a moment of silence for young people who died during the protests as well as those whose property was destroyed said their vision was to see a united and peaceful country for prosperity.

Through their Secretary General Josphat Murangiri, the elders lauded the young generation under the banner ‘Generation Z’ for championing a better country free from corruption and other vices.

On the other hand, they also congratulated President William Ruto for listening to the young Kenyans and acting as per their wishes.

“As you all know, the elders work with the government of the day and we want to say we are very happy for the President for listening to our children and grandchildren.”

“He should immediately act as per the wishes and the agreement they made with the young generation so that the country can return to its peaceful and harmonious ways,” said Mr Murangiri.

Mr Murangiri also implored Generation Z to be patient and give the President time to act on their demands urging them to continue with constructive engagements rather than protests.

“We don’t want to shed any more blood in the country as we did when we were fighting colonialists.”

Generation Z has said what we could not say but we also beg them to be patient enough since everything cannot be fulfilled in a single day,” said Mr Murangiri.

He called on other Kenyans to allow Generation Z ample time to air their grievances in peace without harassing or hiding behind them to commit crimes. This move criminalized their peaceful protests leading to deaths.

“As elders we also urge Generation Z, to also listen and engage their parents as well as the church elders to build a peaceful country together.”

“We are sure that the President will implement all these things and we, as Njuri Ncheke elders will help you in pushing for the desired changes because we all want to have peace in the country,” said Mr Murangiri.
