The security situation in the Municipality of Eldoret and its outskirts has improved up to 90 percent, thanks to efforts by security officers, who conduct patrols every time working in close cooperation with the members of the public, who report suspected criminal incidents in real time to the police officers for swift action.

Uasin Gishu Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi has confirmed that various crimes in the CBD of Eldoret town and its outskirts have reduced completely following intensified patrols by the security officers, who also respond swiftly upon a public tip off whenever they observe suspected criminal incidents.

Mwanthi lauded the police officers and members of the public for their commendable job to ensure Eldoret remains secure.

The police commander further warned residents to stay on high alert and be cautious because criminals have devised new tactics of luring unsuspecting members of the public into their trap.

“Security in Eldoret has improved, we are 90 percent safe because of the public working together with our police officers by giving vital information,” he said.

“But we have other challenges that have begun to emerge, suspected criminals have devised new ways like waiting for a person getting out from a bar or financial institution and telling them we want to pray for you, you have these problems and in the process a person is lured aside and finally gets robbed,” explained Mwanthi.

The police boss cautioned members of the public, especially those coming from the outskirts not knowing the crafty ways the gangs in town use, to stay alert and not giving away their valuable belongings like electronics and others to strangers who pretend to be in dire need of help, noting that those are new tactics the criminal gangs are trying to devise as police have intensified security techniques to curb them in order ensure the town is safe.

“And for some who come to town from villages, their phones are borrowed to make calls under the pretence that they have been stuck, they need someone to call for help and in the process the person runs a way stealing the phone,” he mentioned.

Another trick used by the thieves, is where they take a bunch of papers cut to the size of local currency notes and covering it with a single real note like the Sh.100 note, they drop it then lure unsuspecting person that he or she had dropped something and in the process the person is enticed aside away from the public in pretence of sharing the amount, where the victim is finally robbed of valuables like mobile phones and money.

The police commander urged members of the public to report any insecurity incidents so that police may move with speed to arrest the situation.
