Man charged for defiling a minor in Baringo

A middle-aged man has been arraigned before a Kabarnet court for allegedly defiling a thirteen-year-old girl.

Alex Kibichi alias Vincent who appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Purity Kosgei was charged with defilement contrary to Section 8 (1) as read with Section 8 (3) of the Sexual Offences Act No.3 of 2006.  

The accused was also charged with committing an indecent act with a child in violation of Section 11 of the Sexual Offenses Act No.3 of 2006.

According to the charge sheet, the sexual offence was committed on diverse dates in the months of December 2022 and January 2023 at Kamelon Village in Baringo Central sub-county. willingly and unlawfully defiled the girl.

The defilement case was first reported to the police where the accused was arrested during the material day and taken to Kabarnet police station before being arraigned in court.

The case which had been brought earlier in a different court in January this year had to be started afresh after the Senior Principal Magistrate sought consent from the accused who accepted her request.

However, the accused person who looked confused and nervous denied the charges as read to him by the Senior Principal Magistrate.

The court ordered the suspect to be released on a Sh 200, 000 bond with a surety of a similar amount pending hearing and determination of the case. Ms Kosgei ordered the case to be mentioned on August 2 for further directions.
