Electoral board unveiled to conduct FKF elections

By Peter Ochieng

A five-member electoral board was unveiled on Monday, with a view of conducting Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections in the course of the year.

Hesborn Owilla will lead the board as chairman, while Merceline Sande will serve as the secretary.

Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) President James Waindi, former AFC Leopards chairman Dan Mule and Alfred Ng'ang'a are the other members.

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Owilla said the elections which will probably be held in December, will herald a new dawn for Kenya's football.

"The elections will create the foundation for our beloved sport, one that fans, players, and stakeholders have entrusted us to safeguard. We want all football stakeholders to know that we are committed, as a team, to delivering an outcome that every stakeholder will be proud of.”

The polls, he added, will be free, fair and verifiable.

“Anyone who wants to interact with all the other possibilities will reach the very same conclusion—that if the regulations provide for that location, the board has a responsibility to ensure that it serves the interests of all aspirants without any undue influence," he noted.

The board will operate from Kandanda House, Nairobi.

The board will in the coming days, release a detailed roadmap for the elections on its official website: elections.footballkenya.org.

This roadmap will among other issues, outline the procedures and timelines, ensuring transparency and clear communication with all involved parties.

Meanwhile, Football Kenya Federation presidential aspirant Sammy 'Kempes' Owino says he believes he’s the best candidate to take Kenyan football to the next level.

“I have the exposure to take this game to the next level. Our football quality has really deteriorated in the recent years due to poor management and I believe I have what it take to restore its glory,” he said Owino, while speaking to Citizen TV on Monday morning.

It is not yet clear whether incumbent, Nick Mwendwa will defend his seat or not.
