All the 48 passengers who were aboard a Migori bound bus that burst into flames on Wednesday morning are safe and sound.
The passengers experienced a scare, after the Nairobi -Migori Ena coach bus they were traveling in burst into flames, at about 2am.
Ena Coach Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Mogire in a signed statement, said all the passengers on the bus safely arrived at their various destinations within Migori County.
He said the fire was caused by a tyre burst, which prompted the driver to stop the bus in order to assess the situation.
"At approximately 2 am this morning, while en route from Nairobi to Migori with 48 passengers on board our bus experienced a front tire burst while ascending the hill after Suswa," said the CEO.
"Upon discovery that the bus had caught fire, the driver and the bus crew immediately led the evacuation of all passengers from the burning bus. We are relieved to inform you that no casualties or injuries were reported during this incident," Mogire added.
The affected passengers then boarded an emergency bus, and the journey to Migori continued.
"To minimize any inconvenience caused to our passengers, we immediately dispatched a rescue bus to the scene. We understand that such incidents can be distressing, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or anxiety caused."
According to the CEO, an investigation into the cause of the incident has been launched with a view of preventing an occurrence of the same in the future.
"We want to assure you that we have launched a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire to prevent any similar incidents from occurring in the future. At Ena Coach, we remain committed to providing safe and reliable transportation services. We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation for your understanding and support during this time," he emphasized.
"We will continue to implement stringent maintenance procedures, comprehensive training programs for our drivers and crew members, and regular safety inspections for our fleet of buses to uphold the trust you have placed in us," concluded the CEO.
