Kabando to Ruto: If Kenya falls, you will be lonely like Mobutu

By Peter Ochieng

Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament (MP) Kabando Wa Kabando is urging president William Ruto to tread carefully, lest his sinks the country.

The former legislature says people accompanying the Head of State to his development tours across the country are his greatest enemies.

The vocal former lawmaker says the 2027 campaign forums disguised as development tours are unnecessary, at least for now.

"Hon. President, the brokers, stooges, fraudsters, opportunists, court-poets and masters of platitudes accompanying you for campaigns 2027 are your worst enemies as President. If Kenya sinks, if Kenya falls, if Kenya splits, you'll be a lonely Mobutu Seseseko. Be so very very worried," Kabando wrote on X.

Mobutu is the former Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) president who died in exile in Rabat, Morrocco in 1997.

Critics accuse him of leading DRC with a 'heavy hand' while in office, only to die a lonely man in Morrocco.

Kabando said Ruto should engineer efforts and resources towards serving Kenyans, including addressing the issue of unemployment among youth.

"For a few job ads, thousands of youths of all levels of education turn up to try their luck. Youth unemployment is a hot potato, a clicking time bomb. Today, millions of jobless youths going back home after missing out on KDF recruitment. Exactly what should give Ruto headaches."

Days ago, political analyst Herman Manyora in a statement also urged the president to stop his development tours across the country, and focus on delivering his mandate to Kenyans who elected him a year ago.

"President Ruto: Thank you for visiting our mulembe nation. But from a loyal subject: Consider putting these visits and launches to a stop. They’re becoming too much and a drain on our meager resources. Your Excellency, moving the president around is costly," he said.

"Your Excellency, it may interest you to know that all work stops when you’re around. Like the entire western region shut for all the time you were there. Please consider this as coming from your loyal subject and with tremendous respect and utmost humility."

Ruto concludes his Western tour today, having traverssed Busia, Kakamega, Bungoma and Vihiga counties.
