Comedian cum activist Eric Omondi on Wednesday gave a hint of joining politics ahead of the 2027 polls.

Speaking during an interview on Radio Citizen's Mambo Mseto show, Omondi said their is a high likelihood that he will run for a political seat in 2027.

He said the calls to join politics reached fever pitch during his activism against the Finance Bill, 2023, two months ago.

He recalled how he was severally arrested for opposing the bill, which was eventually passed by Members of Parliament, before being signed into law by president William Ruto.

"People's voices are the voice of God and there is a possibility because two months ago, I was refusing it but since that day I fought for the Finance Bill, 2023. I was arrested seven times, lobbed teargas on, but they went ahead and passed the Bill, so we must be in Parliament to remove them," said the comedian.

He said his eyes are trained on Lang'ata, because most of those pushing him to join politics are from the constituency.

"I have never spoken about Lang’ata because there are many constituencies in this country but apparently Lang'ata is key because of the people who convince me to go for it."

Omondi was recently pictured with Ida Odinga, ODM leader Raila Odinga's wife, adding weight to claims of his political ambitions.

Meanwhile, the current Lang'ata MP Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o dared Omondi and any other person, among them former Radio presenter Andrew Kibe, seeking to unseat him to a political contest.

“Political seats are open for anyone, anyone can compete for in any day. Eric has a chance to be the MP of Lang'ata, This is a political post, I don't know if he has ever announced, but the field is open, we will meet on the ground,” he said.

The first term legislature is among five MPs who were recently expelled from the ODM party for working with president William Ruto.

Others are Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda, Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo, Suba South's Caroli Omondi and Bondo's Gideon Ochanda.

Jalang'o maintains that he will defend his seat in 2027 on the ODM party ticket.
