The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) is concerned about proposed constitutional amendments that would lighten Kenyans' financial burden.

Ignatius Wanjala, the council chairperson for the Bungoma branch, told the media on Monday, July 15, that the time has come for the nation to amend the constitution as a means of addressing the high cost of living.

Wanjala has stated that varsity of budget funds are being misappropriated in many ministries.

He added some positions that are stated in the constitution are passive in executing and implementing their roles thus contributing to the corruption through embezzlement of funds.

" There are offices that have duplicate roles. So I ask that suvh offices government to do away with them, so that would we can live within our means as a country," said Wanjala.

He continued, "There are are a lot of funds that are embezzled. There are corruption scandals sorrounding various offices."

The council has also brought up a number of positions that are redundant and others that have less development significance.

The positions of female senators, representatives, and members of parliament from EALA and counties have all been proposed to be removed.

For example, they have explained how the Auditor General can perform the functions of senators, such as monitoring counties and the legislature.

Nonetheless, the council has advised that the money set aside for redundant positions and other positions that are irrelevant be applied to the other significant projects.
