Raila: We are set for Tuesday demos

By Peter Ochieng

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga on Friday insisted they will be back on the streets on next week.

Addressing his supporters in Kibra on arrival from Dubai after a one week visit, the opposition leader said their planned demo on Tuesday next week is on, urging Azimio supporters to turn up in large numbers.

He said they have not received any positive feedback from President William Ruto's administration, since suspending the protests early this month.

"We postponed our demonstrations after listening to our Muslim brothers pledge for peaceful Ramadhan prayers. We also heed the plea of the religious leaders,” said the ODM party leader.

A bipartisan Parliamantary committee comprising of Azimio and Kenya Kwanza MPs is already in place, to try and solve issues raised by Odinga and his team.

The issues include lowering the cost of living and suspending recruitment of IEBC chairperson and commissioners among others.

Odinga said the bipartisan talks will go on alongside their protests.

“Nothing stops dialogue out of Parliament, the dialogue shall continue as we continue with the demonstrations."

President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua on Friday warned that the government will not tolerate any destruction of property during the demos.
