Families urged to share their problems

Local leaders play a crucial role in resolving family disputes if they are informed in advance before they escalate into a critical stage.

 Chemundu/Kapngetuny Ward County Assembly Member Julius Keter has advocated for families to openly discuss their domestic issues with local leaders for necessary solutions or guidance.

Keter expressed concern over the prevalence of domestic brawls in families, stating that leaders and institutions responsible for handling such cases often remain unaware.

The ward representative, was reacting to an incident in his Ward where remains of decomposing siblings aged 6 and 4 were found at Baraton Village in Chesumei Sub-County, suspected to have been killed by someone close to them.

The incident, which is still under police investigation has left Brenda Jerotich, (wife) and Kelvin Cheruiyot (husband) in police custody after they failed to explain the circumstances in which their children disappeared a week ago.

The two children were strangled in a homicide incident involving a parent's brawl, causing the mother to flee. Their bodies were later discovered by a herdsman, who alerted the community.

Area Sub-County Police Commander Thomas Kiogora said the two appeared before the Kapsabet Court for child neglect, only for the bodies to be discovered in a thicket near their home.

Keter is now suggesting that prents should shun domestic disputes to prevent children from becoming victims.

Local leaders should sit and discuss lasting solutions to family squabbles. Early communication is crucial for effective assistance, added the MCA.

 Keter thanked the police for quick action and asked the residents to work with the relevant government agencies whenever faced with challenges in their homes.
