Ford Kenya Youth league endorse MP Chikati for Secretary General position

Ford Kenya national youth league leadership on Thursday unanimously endorsed Tongaren Member of Parliament (MP) John Chikati for the party’s Secretary General position.

Chikati is expected to fill the void left by former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, who was recently appointed Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in President William Ruto’s administration.

By virtue of his appointment, Wamalwa cannot continue holding the position of Ford Kenya SG.

The former legislature is among 50 CASs yet to assume office over a court order.

Wamalwa was appointed CAS for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation.

Addressing members of the press at Ford Kenya headquarters in Nairobi, the young leaders, led by Musa Chikai and Victor Kirui said Chikati is qualified to serve as the Lion party’s Secretary General.

“We have looked around, above and beneath. We have looked inside and outside the party, and realized that the only person with the qualities of an SG is none other than John Chikati. For this reason, the youth league hereby endorses the Member of Parliament for Tongaren Constituency as the next Secretary General of the party,” they said in a statement.

“Honorable Chikati has a vision and the zeal to take the Ford Kenya party to the next level, given his wide experience on matters project management in African Countries and beyond.”

They urged party members, officials and elected leaders to consider the first term MP as the next SG.

The party is headed by National Assembly Speaker, Moses Masika Wetang’ula.

Chikati is serving his first term as Tongaren MP, having been elected during the August 2022.

He defeated among others, the then incumbent David Eseli Simiyu.

Eseli unsuccessfully defended his seat on the Democratic Action Party (DAP) of Kenya.

He joined DAP in 2022 from Ford Kenya where he had served as SG for several years, before a public fall out with Wetang’ula.
