Fuel prices increase by up to Sh15
By Peter Ochieng
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has reviewed the prices of fuel upwards.
EPRA Director General Daniel Kiptoo in a statement said the increase is as a result of varrying prices in cost of landing imports.
A litre of Super Petrol now goes up by Sh3.40.
The price of a litre of Diesel goes up by Sh6.40, while the price of a litre of Kerosene jumps up by a whooping Sh15.19.
"Taking into account the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products, the changes in the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices in Nairobi are as follows: Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene increase by Kshs.3.40 per litre, Kshs.6.40 per litre and Kshs.15.19 per litre respectively," said Kiptoo.
As such, a litre of Super Petrol will now retail Sh182.70, Diesel at 168.40 and Kerosene at Sh161.13 respectively for the next 30 days.
"The prices are inclusive of the 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020," added Kiptoo.
The next fuel review will be done on 14th, June, 2023.
