Gachagua: I am happy to see many pregnant women in Central

By Peter Ochieng

Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua says he is happy to see many pregnant women in Mt Kenya, owing to a successful campaign against alcohol and drug abuse in the region.

Speaking on Thursday, Gachagua said that before the launch of the anti-alcohol and drug abuse campaign in the region spearhead by himself and his wife, Dorcas Gachagua, the number of pregnant women was low due to alcohol taking a toll on young women in Central Kenya.

The DP highlighted the benefits of the anti-drug campaign, linking it to increased pregnancies among women.

"The other day I called parents here to come and pick flour and cooking oil. Almost 10,000 people came, I said let us have a que of women with small children. Children were crying, I was very happy," said the DP.

"I then directed expectant women to line up, the que was longer than the first one. I am very proud that our community is coming back. We have children being born, we have pregnant women."

The DP visited one of his staff in Mathira, Nyeri County who has been blessed with triplets.

"Children are a bundle of blessings and a precious gift from God. Today, with my spouse we celebrated the gift of triplets to Kennedy Mwangi and his wife Wanjiku, our neighbours in Nyeri County. It was a pleasure spending time with the young family of Mwangi, who is one of my staff," said the second in command.

On Tuesday, Gachagua said the fight against illicit brew had witnessed a 70 percent success rate in Central Kenya.

He thanked the local administration and the police for helping with the reforms.
