Gachagua to Raila: Where will you take the signatures?

By Peter Ochieng

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday laughed off Azimio La Umoja One Kenya leader, Raila Odinga's latest move against President William Ruto's administration.

On Friday, at Kamkunji grounds in Nairobi, Odinga launched a 10 million signature collection drive, in what he said was a bid to oust Ruto from office.

He said the signatures should be collected by end of next week.

"I Raila Amollo Odinga will start today. And all of you will get papers to sign so that by end of next week, we have over 10 million signatures to prove that we have taken back our authority."

But in a rejoinder, Gachagua speaking during a funeral ceremony in his native Mathira constituency, Nyeri county, wondered where the ODM party leader will take the signatures, after collecting them.

"Even if they collect those signatures, where will they take them? People signed on the ballot and that was the end," said the second in command.

"They are saying they will remove Ruto from power. How will they if they failed when he was not in power. There is no constitutional provision for the collection of signatures."

His sentiments were echoed by Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale.

"Babaman taking ODM followers, for fools. The president can be removed not through signatures but by the Senate through impeachment, and by a tribunal supported by National Assembly due to physical or mental incapacity," said the Senator.

Odinga declared that they wil continue with protests against Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration on Wednesday next week.
