Miguna on why he is not celebrating Ruto's threats to the 'corrupt'
By Peter Ochieng
Outspoken lawyer Joshua Miguna Miguna says he is in no celebratory mood, despite president William Ruto's recent tough words against corruption suspects.
Miguna says he will only celebrate if suspected corruption perpetrators are arrested, charged and eventually jailed.
He says threats alone will make no difference, adding that Kenyans are fed up with empty words.
"Until I see Uhuru Kenyatta’s 4 dollar billionaire thieves and their principals in handcuffs and their stolen public property restored to the public, I am not celebrating President William Ruto’s threats to the corrupt. Kenyans want to see action, noot words!" he wrote in a post on social media.
Additionally, Miguna says the war against graft must be spearheaded by empowered proffessionals.
"We want the rule of law to prevail. Not the rule of the jungle. I, Miguna Miguna, strongly oppose extra-judicial killings and other fiats. Those interested in cleaning up Kenya must hire competent and ethical professionals to undertake investigations, prosecutions and judicial work. Empower ethical judges like Odunga, Ngugi, Mwita, Weldon Korir and others. We can’t threaten thieves but populate the higher echelons of DCI_Kenya, PoliceKE, ODPP_KE and Kenya judiciary with inept and corrupt cronies!"
Speaking in Bungoma and Kakamega counties during his tour of the Western region this week, the president gave three options to the people he called thieves.
He said they should change, be jailed or leave the country, warning that the corrupt will not survive during his time in office.
"We cannot continue to entertain this. We need a lasting break. All thieves must stop their acts. There is no place for such people. Change, leave Kenya or go to jail," he declared.
"The corrupt, the thieves, the people who steal the future of our children, they must leave Kenya or they will go to jail or they have the option of going to heaven.”
"And it is not a threat, it is the truth and it is an option and I am not threatening anybody. It is what we will do."
The Head of State at the same time hit out at sections of legislatures aligned to the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya, for coming out in the open to defend corruption suspects.
