Kisumu City Manager Michael Abala Wanga has announced a ‘packed entertainment program’ for Kisumu residents, ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Wanga in his address to members of the press on Wednesday said Kisumu City will next month be the hub of entertainment, with Congolese singer Koffi Olomide, Prince Indah and the Zaiko Langalanga group expected to set the ball rolling with their performances during the Mzuka festival, on December 14, 2024.
The event will be held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Sports Stadium, in Mamboleo.
“This Christmas Kisumu is going to be the hub of entertainment. We are going to commence it with the presence of Zaiko Langalanga band, Koffi Olomide and Prince Indah on the 14th December. The people of the Lake region from Nairobi or anywhere else, book a ticket early,” he said.
“This is like African music December entertainment in Kisumu,” added Wanga.
Three years ago, the county government of Kisumu initiated a week-long entertainment festival around the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
According to the City Manager, things are just about to get better as the festivities’ mood sets in.
“Koffi will be here. Personally, I want to go there and listen to Cindy Le Cœur, the wife of Koffi. That lady sings.”
Concerning insecurity in the Lakeside City, Abala Wanga said the past one month has seen a lot of action behind the scenes, which has resulted in the management of the security situation in Kisumu.
“Over a month ago, the governor, county police commander and county commissioner formed a multi-agency team to deal with security. So far, for the last 30 days, we have really dealt with a lot of insecurity issues.”
“We have beefed up patrols, and people have been arrested. We have dismantled the criminal gangs,” he stated.
The City Manager assured residents of their security, ahead of the festivities.
