A sombre mood has gripped Msabaha village in Malindi Sub County, following the brutal murder of a 50-year-old woman Tuesday night.

The body of Fatuma Karisa was discovered by her three-year-old granddaughter, who rushed to her parents, who live about 120 meters from the woman’s house and reported that her grandmother was bleeding.

Malindi Deputy County Police Commander Solomon Odera confirmed the 7.30 pm incident and said police officers had launched investigations to establish the motive of the heinous crime.

A signal circulated from the Kizingo Police Station indicated that the woman’s son-in-law, Mr Abdul Karim Fundi reported Tuesday night that at about 7.30 pm, his three-year-old daughter, who was living with her grandmother, rushed to his house and reported that her grandmother was bleeding.

The girl’s parents, on seeing blood stains on their daughter’s clothes, rushed to the scene where they found the woman’s lifeless body seated on a plastic chair, her head having been slit on the neck.

The man then alerted neighbours before reporting the incident to the police station, which is about five kilometres from the scene, and when officers reached the scene, they found the woman on her chair in a pool of blood, her head almost chopped off.

Speaking to journalists at the Malindi Sub County Hospital Funeral Home Wednesday, Saumu Thethe, the mother to the young girl, said her daughter was fond of her grandmother and that they were staying together.

A niece to the deceased woman, Ms Patience Kipusa Mwayele, said the woman had expressed in February this year fear on her life after a land dispute with an unnamed man, who had even threatened to either kill or thrown her into prison

“I February, I met my aunt at the police station where she had gone to report that a man was threatening her life over a land dispute,” Ms Mwayele told journalists at the Malindi Sub County Hospital Funeral Home.

“When I heard about this incident, I thought this could be a motive, but on further inquiries, I am informed that the dispute was resolved and my aunt had started paying the man,” she added.

The deceased woman’s daughter only identified as Zena said she called her mother at about 6.00 pm to check on her health as she was diabetic, and her mother said she was doing well and was even preparing her supper.

"When I returned from buying supper, I received a call from my sister that my mother had been killed,” she added.
